Use the following custodian list to route common Lake County record requests:
- Police and incident reports: request the document from the law-enforcement agency that prepared it
- Expungement or sealing: submit the required petition in the court where the case was heard
- Arrest, jail, and booking material: reach the Lake County Sheriff's records or corrections custodian, as appropriate
- Official background checks: use the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification process
- Court files: consult the Lake County criminal court case records information or ask the clerk for the court that handled the matter

Standard county business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Verify the applicable counter procedure before making the trip.
