1. What This Website Is

This private reference site operates independently from government. It neither stores official criminal records nor retrieves records, conducts authorized background checks, or files paperwork for a visitor.

Its purpose is to identify the Lake County custodians, including Sheriff's records staff, criminal courts, the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification repository, and the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. Government access rules arise under laws such as the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and the Uniform Conviction Information Act, 20 ILCS 2635; those laws do not make this private website a records custodian. Some pages also connect readers to independently operated research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

By using the site, a visitor agrees not to:

• Operate bots, scraping software, or other automated access tools against the pages
• Interfere with performance or prevent another visitor from using the website
• Attempt unauthorized entry into any connected system
• Use site information to threaten, stalk, or harass another person

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Illinois places particular limits on use of Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry information, and misuse directed at a registrant can carry criminal penalties. Registry access supports public-safety awareness. It does not authorize vigilante conduct, workplace blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Lake County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and produces no credit report, background check, or other consumer report. Its advertising partners likewise do not provide a service designed to evaluate applicants, renters, insurance risk, or creditworthiness. Information obtained here or through a linked tool may not be used to:

• Set an insurance premium or assess creditworthiness
• Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
• Make a hiring or termination decision
• Decide eligibility for a permit, license, or government benefit
• Carry out any other activity governed by the FCRA

A check needed for a regulated purpose must be obtained through the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

The content is not legal advice. General descriptions of Lake County criminal records cannot determine how a warrant, charge, conviction, or expungement law affects a particular person. Individual legal advice should come from an Illinois-licensed attorney.

6. No Warranties

All site material is supplied "as is," without a guarantee that:

• An outside search provider's result will be complete or correct
• The pages contain no error, software defect, or security weakness
• Operation will continue without interruption
• Information will always be accurate, complete, and current

Criminal-record status changes as charges are filed or dismissed and files are sealed or expunged. Updates can lag or be missed. No website content should be understood as an official statement by a court, Sheriff, or other public agency.

Links lead to Sheriff's resources, court systems, Illinois agencies, legal-aid organizations, and independent search services. Following one leaves this website for a platform outside its control. Lake County Criminal History is not responsible for an external service's content, privacy practices, fees, or availability. Review the destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Lake County Criminal History or its content partners own the website's text, code, logos, and graphics. Written permission is required before that material may be copied, changed, distributed, or used to create a derivative work.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lake County Criminal History is not liable for harm arising from site use, including a decision based on content found here or through an external service.

10. Indemnification

A visitor agrees to indemnify and hold the site harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that visitor's use or violation of these terms, including resulting legal expenses and related costs.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by Illinois law, including applicable parts of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505. A dispute arising from website use must be filed in an Illinois court that has proper jurisdiction.

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected language will be modified only to the extent required for enforceability.
